Oranges, oranges the wonderful fruit

Whitney has eaten the lemon's out of my water before when we've gone out to restaurants, but last night at Cheeseburger In Paradise, we ordered her a fruit plate that consisted of oranges, strawberries and pineapple. She loved it all - and ate the entire orange (4 slices). We were hoping she wouldn't have a tummy ache from all the citrus, but she seemed to do just fine!

I'm gonna be in pictures!

Through friends of my old stomping grounds FW, Lauren and Whitney were asked to be in a photoshoot for a book about nursery crafts and decor! Wee was a little apprehensive (she has MAJOR "stranger danger") but they were able to get some good shots for the project. I can't wait to see more pictures and actually get a copy of the book. I will no doubt have to ask my daughters to autograph it for me... :)

"You" by Fisher

I am such a believer in the power of music. The words, the meanings between the lines...great poetry can be delivered through a song. It's a way for people to relate without having to use their own words - be it that they don't know how, or are just too embarrassed of "exposing" their true feelings. I love music. My girls love music. I'm hoping they feel it as deeply as I do. And with that, my first (of what I'm sure will be many) dedication to my girls.

Stylin'

Mommy got me this new headband from Gymboree. It was buy one get one 1/2 off. Sissy got one too, but mommy says my face in this picture is priceless.

Out for a stroll

Pampaw Zumbaugh got us this fun stroller - and Whitney is getting the hang of walking with it! Soon, she'll be able to take it to StrollerFit classes with mommy. :)

Let's Look!

We came to party!

Grandma and Grandpa Clidence threw us a wonderful party for our big birthday! It was so fun to see so many people and we had lots of fun! Grandma made everything so pretty!

Look at all our gifts!

My (Whitney) cake that Grandma had made for me...

My (Lauren) cake that Grandma had made for me...

One of the FUN gifts from "Aunt" Elissa and "Aunt" Meshawn! They know we like funny-looking monsters!

We liked playing with all the pretty bows...

Opening presents was fun. We got LOTS of fun toys and clothes!

After presents, we got to have CAKE!

Since the weather was nice, we got to play outside.

Our pal Vincent and his mommy came all the way from Louisville to celebrate with us, then they had a sleepover!

We had snacks too, everyone enjoyed the yummy food!

Vincent and his mommy and Sophie and her daddy...

Aunt Sadie drove down too!

I wanted to sit with "Aunt" Elissa most of the time. I like her. :)

Pampaw Zumbaugh (and Mamaw, Great-Grandma Zumbaugh and Great-Aunt LaVerne) came that morning so we were able to spend lots of time with them...

We were so lucky so many people came from far away to see us! Aunt Phillis came too!

Cousin Alyssa came with Pampaw.

Our good friend Sophie and her mommy and daddy drove to Grandma's that day too!

We didn't get to get pictures of everyone because we were so busy, but we know we're so lucky to have such great friends! Thanks everyone!

Just the four of us

On the girls' actual birthday, Scott and I made cupcakes for them.

Lauren picked apart her cupcake curiously...

...but then thought it fun to feed some to Winston.

Whitney didn't really know what to think either (besides, neither of them had ever SEEN a cupcake!)...

...but eventually it went everywhere, including her hair.

After cupcakes, we unveiled the "Crabbie" sandbox.

Since it was raining we couldn't put the sand in, but they had fun nonetheless.

One year ago...

When I woke up Wednesday morning, I had been a "mother" for one year. That's 12 months - only 52 weeks or 365 short days. In that amount of time, I've probably changed over 3,000 diapers, produced over 12,000 ounces of milk from my own body and washed hundreds of loads of laundry. I've also seen thousands of smiles, 10 teeth, wiped a million tears and given gazillion hugs. I've seen two springs, one summer, one fall and one winter. This will be our first summer together, as a family. My daughters will enjoy the sunshine, the flowers, grass (and even bugs). This year probably won't stand out in my girls' minds, but I know it will never leave mine. Next year at this time they'll be running everywhere, eating "real" foods and wanting to play at the park. I'm sure that in about two more years they'll be begging us to go "camping." ...even though it will most likely be in the back yard.

Scott and I are planning to take the girls to Florida this fall. Funny how planning a trip for months in advance seems forever away. But put it in relation to your babies growing and it passes in the blink of an eye.

A year ago Wednesday, I became a mother. A badge of honor I will always carry with me, even when I'm no longer of this world. Of course Wee and Lou have no concept of time - or the fact that celebrating their first year was so important. But one year ago, my life was changed forever. When I see these precious girls catch me out of the corner of their eye and light up at the sight of me, forever isn't going to be long enough.

Happy birthday babies! You're my heart, my soul, my life. Forever and ever.
